Welcome

”The secret of success is to be ready when your opportunity comes.” (Benjamin Disraeli 1804-1881)

Jaakko Paajanen - Kuva: Eero HaapalaMany southern men shares my story; first love hits me and then Lapland enchanted me. I was working as a carpenter in Finnish Broadcasting Company in Helsinki. Work took me in Lapland when making a film. After a short while I moved to Enontekiö in 1973. Since then I’ve been mainly working in building business.

It’s been said that one has to change tripping stones to stepping stones meaning if you can’t do something, you have to practise a lot. Being a carpenter my hands got trained and i learned to be precise. One has to learn many things via the long way, but one has to remember that: ” Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” (Thomas A. Edison 1847-1931).

As an artist and a craftsman I get my inspiration to my works from the nature. Apart from ice, snow and wood, I also use reindeer horn and bone as a material for my works. I’ve won several national and international ice sculpting competitions and done custom works for companies around Nordic countries. Also, I’ve had the pleasure to teach and lecture for people of all ages on courses arranged by several different organizations.

On my freetime I like to hunt, go fishing, play billiard, sing in a choir and lots more. At times, it feels like whole life is nice hobby full of surprises and experiences. Art comes from moments and realizations – it has to preserved in different materials to bring joy to those who understand the message.

Welcome to my pages!

Best Regards, Jaakko Paajanen
